Meet Our Speakers!

Savannah Lane

Born in Houston, Texas and raised in Richmond, Virginia Savannah Lane found her passion for politics and understanding the realm of international advocacy at a young age when she became Virginia’s inaugural ANNPower Fellow (a program created by Hillary Clinton and Madeleine Albright). Through this program Savannah was exposed to leaders from around the world and worked with mentors as an ANNPower national grant winner. 

Savannah went on to study Foreign Affairs/Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Virginia, serve as a Resident Advisor and work for Senator McCain’s reelection campaign doing research surrounding foreign policy issues. Savannah continued her work in the political realm as a program associate at a political consulting firm working in digital media, social media, outreach, event planning and fundraising. 
Through Savannah’s extensive service and advocacy work she won the title of Miss Virginia 2015 in the Miss America Organization and worked in media realms with Dick Clark Productions, national nonprofits, Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, the American Heart Association and more. Through this opportunity Savannah won talent and Quality of Life award designations for her service and commitment to the community. 

Following graduation, Savannah moved to Washington D.C. after she was one of eight women selected from across the country to serve as a Star Fellow for Running Start in a congressional office. Through Running Start, a nonpartisan nonprofit promoting women in politics, Savannah honed her communication and strategy skills, mentored and trained to run for political office and advocated for women in underrepresented fields. 

Savannah now serves as the Executive Director for THO, a nonpartisan think tank focused on U.S.-Turkey relationship and the NATO alliance. Whether working on publications, digital and social media, interviewing for various international media outlets or working with organizational partners she enjoys the challenge of the ever changing geopolitical sphere and working to change the role of women in the field of international security and foreign policy. Savannah was recently selected as one of ten Americans for the Salaam Fellowship for peace and security negotiations training completed in Morocco, and currently is a Master’s Candidate for a degree in international affairs and global security.

Savannah in her spare time enjoys volunteering with the American Heart Association, serving as a member of Pulse, performing, volunteering with students/young adults with disabilities, working with refugees, and spending time with her family (including two sets of twin girls and her decade younger brother). 

Alex Avery

​Alexandra Avery a  woman who knows  the Art of Serving born in Houston Texas raised in Prince George’s  County. Alexandra  began her higher education after high school at North Carolina A&T but decided she wanted to gain more work experience and began an early career in the Hotel Industry in 2009. Alexandra honed her abilities to understand the needs of people and those in leadership. In 2018 she founded her own business The Art of serving Queens  as CEO & creative director. She began to be sought out to provide services to woman who needed assistance in fashion, beauty, media content, & ministry. Alexandra is currently enrolled at Bowie State University studying in Broadcast journalism and works  full time as a Senior Project Coordinator for Microsoft in Reston VA. 

Gabby Symone B

​Gabrielle Symone B. Is an author, entrepreneur, life coach , and associate minister at the Historic Wheat Street Baptist Church. She is a graduating master of divinity student at Emory University and has recently released a new book titled Embracing the Unbothered Life. Gabby is a former competitor within in the Miss America and Miss USA pageant systems. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority incorporated. 

Cynthia Terrell

​Cynthia Richie Terrell is the founder and executive director of RepresentWomen and an outspoken advocate for rules & systems reforms to advance women’s representation and leadership in the United States. Terrell and her husband Rob Richie helped to found FairVote - a nonpartisan champion of electoral reforms that give voters greater choice, a stronger voice, and a truly representative democracy. Terrell has worked on projects related to women's representation and voting system reform in the United States and abroad.

Previously, Terrell worked extensively on political campaigns, working as campaign manager and field director for campaigns for the U.S. President, U.S. House and U.S. Senate, for governor and for state and city-wide initiative efforts, including a state equal rights amendment and a city campaign for fair representation voting.

Terrell has been published in numerous print journals including: the Washington Post, The New York Times, The Hill, Refinery29, The Nation, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, The American Prospect, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Baltimore Sun, and The Christian Science Monitor; has appeared on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal; and has participated in numerous radio shows & panel discussions on the topics of electoral reform and structural strategies to elect more women. She is an avid knitter & gardener, has three children, and is active in the Quaker community. She graduated with a B.A. in political science from Swarthmore College in 1986.

Sharece Crawford

Sharece Crawford is a   Speaker, Strategist, and  Survivor.   Sharece Crawford is a third generation Washington, DC native — a first generation college graduate of Shaw University and inaugural member in the establishment of The Smithsonian Institution’s First National Museum of African American History and Culture.  Professionally Sharece is the President and Founder of District Influencers where she focuses on direct human service actions; amplifying voices and causes. As a Strategist and Project Manager Sharece is connecting the dots to solve deeply rooted socioeconomic challenges.  In the community Sharece has invested 17 years in public service and community development. Sharece is a Former Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner and currently the Elected at large Committeewoman for the DC Democratic State Committee where she was able to obtain full support for House Resolution H.R.40 — A commission to study reparations. Sharece is a zealous advocate for inclusiveness, financial equity, equitable legislation, government reform, education reform and creating succession plans to groom future generations. As seen on WJLA 7 News Channel 8; News Channel 5, WHUT, DCW50, RTN — and heard on the BBC, WKYS 93.9; WPGC 95.5 and Magic 102.3. Sharece is committed to amplifying unheard voices in her community and around the world. 

Meet Our Founder & Host!

Cierra Jackson is a proud alumna of two women's colleges, Spelman College and Yale University's Women's Campaign School and is the fourth of, now, eight women in her family to attend Spelman College. Selected as both a White House and Capitol Hill intern, Cierra served as the only White House intern in her class to serve the Chief of Staff's office during the Obama Administration. This 28-year-old is also an accomplished singer who has not only worked in the White House, but has performed there too. Cierra, who has also served as a TV host, has been featured in Cosmopolitan, Essence, People and on First Lady Obama's Instagram and service campaigns. Cierra has also served as an ambassador for two nonprofits, Running Start and She Should Run, where she encouraged and trained young women from all over the nation (and even in Iceland!) to run for political office. As Miss District of Columbia USA in pursuit of Miss USA, Cierra hopes to redefine what it means to look like a politician, not just for herself, but for all women and to encourage them to lead in their communities with a servant's heart.
